Paul Newman has apparently passed away. What is there to say. I think the first films I saw him in were Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Harper, Hud, The Hustler, Hombre (a streak of 'H' films there for a while) and of course Cool Hand Luke.

He was smiling... That's right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn't know it 'fore, they could tell right then that they weren't a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. Cool Hand Luke. Hell, he's a natural-born world-shaker.

I also really enjoyed a smaller film of his The Verdict. Maybe it's the Mick in me.

[Frank is giving his summation to the jury]

Frank Galvin: You know, so much of the time we're just lost. We say, "Please, God, tell us what is right; tell us what is true." And there is no justice: the rich win, the poor are powerless. IF... if we are to have faith in justice, we need only to believe in ourselves. And ACT with justice. See, I believe there is justice in our hearts.
