I am really happy with the choice of Eric Holder for AG- but it looks like this may become the first battleground for the New Obama Administration. Huffpo has it that...
More signs have emerged that Eric Holder's nomination for Attorney General will face a bitter committee fight as Republican Senators on Thursday criticized Holder's work in the Clinton White House and even attempted to tie him to disgraced Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich
Addressing the Senate during what was ostensibly a session to debate the auto industry bailout, Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Jon Kyl (R-AZ) both took to the floor to raise objections not just to the current date for confirmation hearings, which they would like to delay, but to various episodes from Holder's past.
I was not thrilled with his actions on the pardoning stuff, BUT seriously how can this group of thugs and crony-ists have anything to say about anything when it comes to ethics or integrity. And of course they go right for an attempt at making a Blagojevich connection-- (which is nonsense) so freaking predictable. I hope President Obama takes no prisoners on any of these appointments. These gop-has-beens need to realize the hard way that elections have consequences.
Matt had this to say about how quick the GOP is throwing the idea of post partisanship under the bus.
There are folks on the left that have concerns about Holder too. I am not one of them. I think he will make a terrific AG. And I think many things will be put to rest during the hearing process. But, we shall see. Certainly this opposition by leading GOP members of the Judiciary committee is going to make for an interesting first round of hearings in the effort to staff the new administration.
